Paul Sahagian(/15/1880 to 4/19/1948 ).. Annie (6/10/1890 to 8/9/1960)
Paul Sahagian married Annie Markarkian in Armenia in1909.
Paul came to the Us alone sometime between 1909 and 1915.
At this time the Turks were drafting all Armenian
men into their army, which in reality was a sentence of death. Annie
remained behind waitng for Paul to send for her to come to the United States.
During this time The Turks began the deportation of all Armenian
woman children and the elderly. They were marched to the desert
300 miles away, during which their journey many of the marchers
were slaughtered, raped or ultimately died of disease. Only ten percent of the
Armenians survived the
massacre. Annie
was one of the ten percent. ....more after image...
During this march of death she lost her first child.
Previous to the massacre Annie lost the sight of one of
her eyes from treatment of an eye infection by an incompetent doctor.
How Annie, escaped death and made it to the US to rejoin her husband is the
part of the story we may never know.
After settling in the U.S. Paul and Annie had 4 more children.
Sam on 5/7/21, Paul born 10/27/22, Betty on 8/9/26, and another child
Natalie who died in her first year.
Around 1933 Annie lost the sight of her other eye.
Paul was a tailor and a very shrewd businessman. The story goes ,although he
was not a very religious man, that he attended many church services wearing the
finest clothes mainly to meet parishoners just to build his business.
